CALCULATOR

Arcus position calculator

Pick a market, a side, a size and a leverage. The calculator uses that market's live initial and maintenance margin fractions from the Arcus API to show the collateral you post, Arcus's minimum, and roughly where an isolated position would be liquidated.

This is an estimate. It models one isolated position, values maintenance margin on mark-price notional, and leaves out fees, funding and price moves between now and your fill. In cross margin your whole account balance backs the position, so the real liquidation point depends on everything else you hold. Arcus's own maintenance-margin calculation and liquidation engine decide what actually happens; check the liquidation price the Arcus app shows before you trade.

The fields this uses

Every market row in GET /v1/markets carries initialMarginFraction (the collateral needed to open, so max leverage is its inverse), maintenanceMarginFraction (the floor below which a position can be liquidated) and offHoursInitialMarginFraction (the higher opening requirement while an equity, index or commodity market is outside its session). isOutsideRth says which one is live. Arcus's margin docs note that maintenance margin does not rise off-hours, so the close alone does not move a liquidation price.

How the liquidation estimate works

For a long opened at price E with leverage L, the position is liquidated roughly where its remaining equity equals maintenance margin: E x (1 - 1/L) / (1 - maintenance fraction). For a short it is E x (1 + 1/L) / (1 + maintenance fraction). Higher leverage pulls that price closer to entry. Off-hours, equity and commodity markets also sit inside price bands that limit how far the mark can move in a session, which Arcus says is meant to reduce liquidations caused by thin overnight books, though a large move can still get through.
